Thunder Bay is a city in and the seat of Thunder Bay District, Ontario – and with a population of over 100,000 people it is the most populous municipality in Northwestern Ontario, and the second most populous in Northern Ontario.
As the largest city in Northwestern Ontario, Thunder Bay is the region's commercial, administrative and medical centre. Many of the city's largest single employers are in the public sector.
There’s a reason more and more avid outdoor enthusiasts choose to start and end their trophy outdoor experience in Thunder Bay. Recently the city has been actively working to attract knowledge-based industries, primarily in the fields of molecular medicine and genomics. Thunder bay is home to the western campus of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, the first medical school to open in Canada in a generation.
Thunder Bay is home of the world-renowned Sleeping Giant Provincial Park, one of Canada’s great natural wonders. Some other notable attractions include; Silver Falls, Thunder Bay Historical Museum, Ouimet Canyon, Mount McKay Lookout, Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, and Throwbridge Falls.
